Read how many traditional beliefs and superstitions are still followed in India&lt;br /&gt;Indian Traditions : Beliefs and Superstitions&lt;br /&gt;Beliefs and Superstitions&lt;br /&gt;No matter which part of the world you tour, you will find the natives nurturing certain beliefs and superstitions and India is no exception in this case. Though the Indian society is fast progressing, there are many people who are still superstitious and have a strong faith in the local beliefs. While some of them are quite hilarious, few others are really interesting, as many aspects of life are linked to them. Few beliefs even find their way into the Indian religious texts and scriptures.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The standard viewpoint is that most of the Indian beliefs and values have sprung with an objective to protect from evil spirits, but some were based on scientific reasoning. With the passage of time, the reasoning part behind the origin of these cultural beliefs and superstitions got eroded. That is exactly why most of these beliefs appear unsubstantiated and false. However, in reality, there are many such beliefs in the Indians culture which are absolutely absurd and have no logic behind them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Superstitions are deemed as pertinent in India because these, generally, hint at future occurrences and can be either good or bad. Thus, anything from the call of a bird to the falling of utensils is considered an omen in India. Many of the traditional superstitions in India are connected with animals, birds and reptiles. For instance, seeing an elephant when one is leaving for a journey is considered lucky. This is because an elephant represents Lord Ganesha, the Indian God who is the harbinger of good luck and removes obstacles.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Similarly, other auspicious signs could be cawing of a black crow in one's house, as it forecasts the arrival of guests. Seeing a peacock on a journey is also considered lucky, but hearing its shrill sound is bad. Indians feel happy if a sparrow builds a nest in a new house because it signals good fortune. A very old belief is that if you kill a cat, you have to offer one in gold to a priest. This belief or superstition was concocted by the priests to protect the cats, which are useful in killing the rats in people's houses.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Leaving one's home after wedding or for some other important task is a significant occasion. Thus, Indians often consult astrological charts to fix an auspicious time for this. Again, it is considered lucky to see cereals, paddy, cotton, hay or a newly wed before embarking on a journey. In India, you may also come across or hear about people who help in interpreting other's dreams. Even the daily life of Indians is governed by beliefs and superstitions. This is why I find this recipe about the rice and vegetables soup very handy especially for those of you that intend to start a weight loss diet. There are plenty reasons for choosing the rice and vegetable soup diet.&lt;br /&gt;First of all it is not difficult to follow. The daily menu is varied so you have different options to choose from. An of course the ideal feature, that you can eat until you feel satiated and still achieve your main goal: lose the extra kilograms.&lt;br /&gt;What you have to do is to cook a soup using the recipe provided below. After that you should divide the rice and vegetable soup in three equal quantities, one portion for each meal of the day. Eat this soup every time you feel hungry and especially during lunch time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rice and vegetable soup recipe&lt;br /&gt;Ingredients:&lt;br /&gt;- 250 grams of rice;&lt;br /&gt;- 3 kohlrabies (500 grams);&lt;br /&gt;- 200 grams of mushrooms;&lt;br /&gt;- 1 kg of carrots;&lt;br /&gt;- some onion;&lt;br /&gt;- 750 grams of broccoli or cauliflower;&lt;br /&gt;- a spoon of olive oil;&lt;br /&gt;- 2 cloves;&lt;br /&gt;- some savory;&lt;br /&gt;- a leaf of laurel;&lt;br /&gt;- a few condiments;&lt;br /&gt;- 850 grams of tomatoes;&lt;br /&gt;- pepper.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The vegetables are cut into small pieces. The olive oil is warmed up in a big pot in which the soup will be cooked. After that, you should anneal the garlic. The vegetables are added together with 2 1/2 liters of water.&lt;br /&gt;Bring the mixture to a boiling temperature. Then, you should add the rice, the tomatoes and the condiments. The soup is spiced with pepper and you need to let it boil until you observe that the added rice is ready.&lt;br /&gt;After that you add broccoli and you wait for it to boil another 8 minutes.&lt;br /&gt;Very Important: The salt in this soup isn’t allowed!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Food recipes for the breakfast&lt;br /&gt;1. An omelet made from one egg with a slice of brown bread and 2 tomatoes.&lt;br /&gt;2. A slice of brown bread with butter, 30 grams of cheese and 3 radishes.&lt;br /&gt;3. Two slices of brown toast combined a chicken schnitzel and a cucumber.&lt;br /&gt;4. Two slices of brown toast with a spoon of cottage cheese and 2 slices of chicken chest.&lt;br /&gt;5. 150 grams of law fat yogurt with 100 grams of cottage cheese and a slice of brown bread;&lt;br /&gt;6. An apple, one orange, 2 kiwis and 100 ml of milk with a spoon of complet cereals and 150 g of yogurt.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Between the meals at your choice:&lt;br /&gt;- an apple and one kiwi;&lt;br /&gt;- a cup of coffee with milk;&lt;br /&gt;- three salt biscuits ;&lt;br /&gt;- an yogurt;&lt;br /&gt;- 50 grams of cottage cheese;&lt;br /&gt;- a cucumber and 2 slices of cheese;&lt;br /&gt;- 2 tomatoes;&lt;br /&gt;- 2 carrots;&lt;br /&gt;- a cup of law fat milk&lt;br /&gt;- a lettuce with bunch onion and radishes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Note!&lt;br /&gt;The above variations for the breakfast and the aperitif are single choices. Try these simple treatments and stay healthy in a natural way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Asthma&lt;br /&gt;Take one teaspoonful of ginger powder and one teaspoonful of licorice powder. Add half a litre of water and boil the mixture till it reduces to one fourth (about 125 ml.). Strain it and drink it warm. Adding a teaspoonful of honey or one gram of common salt is beneficial.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Backache&lt;br /&gt;Make a paste of ginger, and apply to the affected area. Massaging with eucalyptus oil is very effective. You can also make your own massaging oil. Take 2-3 cloves of garlic, and cut them into small pieces. Put them in 100 ml. of sesame oil or mustard oil (or any other oil if these two are not available). Boil on slow fire for about five minutes. This oil is very good for massaging the area of backache.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bleeding (External)&lt;br /&gt;Applying a paste of sandalwood powder is helpful in the cases of external bleeding. It stops the bleeding and also heals the wound. Drinking a cup of warm milk with half teaspoonful turmeric powder and a pinch of saffron or alum, added to it is also very good healing drink. It also acts as pain reliever.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Burns&lt;br /&gt;Make a paste of fresh gel of aloe-vera with a pinch of turmeric powder. Adding one 1-2 grams of ghee or coconut oil to this paste makes it more effective. This paste can be applied to the burnt area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cold&lt;br /&gt;Take one tablespoon of grated fresh ginger, one teaspoonful of cinnamon powder . Add all these together to one litre water and boil on slow fire for ten minutes till about one fourth (250 ml.) of it is left. This drink can be taken three times in a day. Honey can added as a sweetener.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Diarrhea&lt;br /&gt;Add one teaspoon of fresh grated ginger and one gram of nutmeg powder to half a cup of water. Blend them together for few minutes into a mixture. Drinking this twice or thrice a day helps to stop diarrhea.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Earache&lt;br /&gt;Take 2-3 cloves of garlic. Peel off the skin and cut them into small pieces. Add 100 ml. of sesame or mustard oil and boil on a slow fire for about five minutes. Strain and when it becomes cool, drop two drops in the aching ear. Can be used two times a day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Make a mixture of one teaspoonful of onion juice and half teaspoonful of honey. This mixture is also helpful in earache. Two drops in each ear can be used two times a day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eye Burn&lt;br /&gt;Put 2-3 drops of pure rose water into the affected eye. This can be used two or three times a day. It also helps in itchy eyes and reduces the redness in the eyes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Boils&lt;br /&gt;Apply cooked onion as a poultice on the boil. A paste of ginger powder (one teaspoonful) and turmeric powder (one teaspoonful) is also good to apply on the boil. Either the boil will be suppressed or a head will appear so that the pus can be drained out easily.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Exhaution (Heat)&lt;br /&gt;Drink one glass (250 ml.) of coconut water or grape juice. Take 3-4 pieces of dates and cook them with one glass of milk or water. Eat the dates and drink the milk or water. It is also good to blend them in a mixture before taking. This drink is very good and gives instant energy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Gum Bleeding&lt;br /&gt;Squeeze the juice of half lemon into a cup of water and add one teaspoonful of honey. This drink should be taken every morning. Massaging the gums gently with coconut oil also helps.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Menstrual Cramps&lt;br /&gt;Take one tablespoon of aloe-vera gel and mix in half a gram of black pepper powder. You can try out different ways to make candles making layers or adding embeddings in glass containers or any other translucent container. Decorate your home with these beautiful candles made on your own.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Materials&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   * Gel Wax&lt;br /&gt;   * Candle Scents (strictly only one or two drops, otherwise it may ignite the      whole surface of the gel when you light them)&lt;br /&gt;   * Candle dyes&lt;br /&gt;   * Wicks&lt;br /&gt;   * Wick Base&lt;br /&gt;    Glass container&lt;br /&gt;   * Embeds (as per your choice)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Method of preparation&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   * Select the right glass or non-flammable container for your gel candle.&lt;br /&gt;   * Stick one end of the wick by a wick base or glue in the container. Suspend the wick vertically in the container by tying it to a split cane or a toothpick.&lt;br /&gt;   * Melt the wax in a double boiler or in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. The gel wax may take more time for melting than paraffin wax.&lt;br /&gt;   * Add the required colour. Only liquid colour is recommended for optimum effects. Water-base and paste dyes won't mix, and color blocks used for regular wax candles may make the gel cloudy. You will want to add your color and scent fairly quick because the gel will start to set rather fast.&lt;br /&gt;   *  Pour the wax into the container - down the side to prevent bubbles. The higher the pouring temperature, the fewer bubbles. Sometimes you want bubbles for effect, in which case you should let the gel cool before pouring. Gel does not shrink so it will not require a re-pour.&lt;br /&gt;   * Pull the wick up straight and center it.&lt;br /&gt;   * Once candle is fully cooled down it will be ready to burn.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Layers&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can create all kinds of interesting looks by pouring different colours of gel on top of each other. Allow each layer to completely solidify before pouring next.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Opaqueness&lt;br /&gt;If you prefer your gel candle to be more dense, add crayons instead of gel candle dye. Another method is to fold the gel repeatedly over as it cools with a butter knife. Transfer the gel to the container when it starts to become stiff to handle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wick&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wax coated wicks will be stiff and burn well. If you are using the candle for lighting, it is advisable to use short wick so that the embeds in the candle don't get burned.
